Whether you're a seasoned DIY'r or new to home automation, SmartLinc - INSTEON Wire-In Starter Kit has everything you need to experience remote control of lights and appliances from inside your home, on your way home from the office, or halfway around the world on vacation. The SmartLinc Central Controller connects to an existing router (required) allowing for direct communication via the Internet or Wi-Fi from an iPhone, iPod touch or any other Web-enabled PC, Phone or PDA. With SmartLinc, you can check to see if you've left the lights on and even turn them off while you're at the office or you can simply dim the lights while relaxing on your couch. Included are two dimmer switches which will replace existing switches to each control a dimmable light and an On/Off relay switch which will replace an existing switch to control a non-dimmable fluorescent light or appliance. From your web-enabled device, you can control the modules individually or as "scenes."

Expandability
Expand this SmartLinc kit to include control of other INSTEON dimmers and switches, wire-in / outlet modules, plug-in modules, low-voltage input / output control, control your thermostat, display power consumption of an appliance, control the garage door and much more.

Easy To Install
The SmartLinc - INSTEON Wire-In Starter Kit is so easy to install and set up and yet so affordable, you'll want to automate your entire home with INSTEON-compatible products. Just remove your old switches and attach each of the new switch's line, load, ground, and neutral wires using the included wire nuts; then plug-in SmartLinc to an available outlet and connect it to your router. Following the included instructions, start linking the included devices to your web-enabled phone or PDA (designed for optimal use with an iPhone or iPod touch) to control your INSTEON network from almost anywhere. Adjust brightness levels and ramp rates that create awesome lighting scenes or simply create timers based on when you are home or by sunrise and sunset.

    Please Note: This kit is designed for SmartLinc to receive signals from your router via your iPhone, iPod touch, web-enabled phone or PDA. It will in turn send out an INSTEON signal that will communicate with the other included INSTEON switches. If you plan to install the included switches on different electrical phases in your home, or plan to expand your INSTEON network to control other lights or appliance on separate phases, we recommend purchasing a pair of Access Points to ensure reliable communication.

    This was a replacement for a switch that I could not get to work and we thought it was bad. Turns out that I have a glitch in the electric wiring in that room of the house. I am going to keep the extra switch and use it somewhere else instead of returning it for credit. The only thing that I did not really like about the whole system was the instructions. If I had known in advance that I was going to have to set up port forwarding and all the other things with the router I probably would not have bought this system. I think when you just stick a picture of an Iphone on the sale page and say control from anywhere, you should be a little more open about the port forwarding end of it for people that don't know how to do that.

    Works pretty well. Tough time getting to work as nowhere in the directions does it that if you have more than one breaker pannels with service you must be on same breaker set with tranceiver or it does not work.

    A great introduction to home automation. The Icon switches feel a little cheap, and aren't as versatile as the other models available (e.g: you can't set ramp rates)... but you get what you pay for. The SmartLinc is great - I had a problem setting it up, becuase it was on the same outlet as a surge protector, but as soon as I moved it, it worked perfectly. It's not as fully functional as some of the other controllers, but at this price-point, it's hard to complain... especially when you pair it with software like Eventghost, which can turn the SmartLinc into something quite snazzy. Search the forums for cool ways to squeeze new functionality out of this great little budget device: the community is super helpful!

    In general, the product works as advertised and the basic switches (2 pole) are easy to install. I found the documentation a bit lacking on 3 pole installations. Likewise, the Controller was easy to install for basic functions. I found the user interface very minimal, though, and see no reason why it shouldn't be easier to set up a scene for multiple on-off times in the same day or different days of the week. For the cost of the device this should be much better. My biggest problem is with remote access. It still doesn't work. Customer service simply blames my router or cable company. I won't buy more devices until this works so it would seem there's incentive to help me fix it.

    It is Ok. Looks nice. But could be better. Works better as a webpage for you home, rather than a central controller.

    Basic set up is a breeze. Just make sure you have your router setup properly for access outside your home. Also, controlling multiple devices in a scene requires some custom commands which isn't really explained well in the manual. Check the forums for more info.

    Very expensive...still trying to learn about using it currently having trouble using it with X10 and scheduling times don't work accurately. Wish it work right out of the box!
