Interactive Lesson - Programming the On-Level on a SwitchLinc Dimmer

Linking Multiple INSTEON-Compatible Devices Using Multilink Mode

In this lesson, you are going to learn how to link multiple INSTEON-compatible devices to an INSTEON-compatible controller using Multilink Mode. Multilink mode allows you to link multiple devices to one controller quickly without having to put the controller into linking mode for each device.

Introduction

Let's say you want to control all the lights in a room with a single button on the INSTEON RemoteLinc Wireless Remote Control. To accomplish this, you must link the RemoteLinc to an INSTEON SwitchLinc Dimmer, an INSTEON KeypadLinc Dimmer and an INSTEON LampLinc Dimmer.

  • The SwitchLinc in this room controls the accent lights above the painting
  • The KeypadLinc in this room controls the overhead lights
  • The LampLinc in this room controls the table lamp
Setting into Multilink Mode
  • To place the RemoteLinc into Multilink Mode, first you must place it into Linking Mode by pressing and holding the desired ON button for 10 seconds
  • After pressing and holding the desired ON button for 10 seconds, the RemoteLinc will beep and the LED light will begin to blink continuously. The RemoteLinc is now in Multilink mode and ready for linking
  • Tap the same ON button again and the RemoteLinc will beep once more and the LED light will continue to blink
Linking
  • Go over to the SwitchLinc and hold the SET button on the SwitchLinc for 3 seconds, then release
  • The accent lights will flash, and the RemoteLinc will beep to confirm linking
  • On the KeypadLinc, press and hold the ON button that controls the overhead lights for 10 seconds, then release
  • The overhead lights will flash, and the RemoteLinc will beep to confirm linking
  • Go over to the LampLinc and hold the SET button on the LampLinc for 3 seconds, then release
  • The accent lights will flash, and the RemoteLinc will beep to confirm linking
  • Now that you are finished linking all the INSTEON-compatible devices to the RemoteLinc, you can exit Multilink Mode by tapping any button on the RemoteLinc

Exiting Multilink Mode

The RemoteLinc's status LED light will stop blinking and remain steadily on for a few moments before going off.

Testing Test that the links were successful by turning all the lights in the room ON and OFF by pressing the ON and OFF buttons on the RemoteLinc.
